Start of production of German TV movie series "Vancouver Bay" in British Columbia
September 12, 2014
Production has started for two 90 minute-MOWs commissioned by German broadcaster ARD/Degeto and produced by Bavaria Fernsehproduktion GmbH from Munich, Germany. Red Cedar Films is proud to be assigned Canadian service producer for the movies, which are shot in Vancouver, Bowen Island, Brittania Beach and Squamish until end of October 2014.
The films deal with a group of German-Canadians who run a beautiful lodge secluded from nearby metropolis Vancouver. However, reality soon catches up with the team of friends, a top chef (Katja Weitzenböck), a pilot (Robert Seeliger) and a tomboy (Sonja Gerhardt).
Whereas Episode 1 features German film legend Michael Gwisdek (Goodbye, Lenin!, The Baader Meinhof Complex) in a leading guest role, the second episode features an ensemble of Germany's finest younger actors, including Marlene Morreis, Siegfried Terpoorten, Sönke Möhring, Anna-Lena Klenke and Nico Hartung.
Canadian actor Robert Seeliger (The Ghost, Miss Texas) stars in the lead role of Adrian Gallister, and a wide range of supporting roles are cast with local actors, including Timothy Webber, Lorne Cardinal and Andrea Menard.
The film is DP'd by Markus Fraunholz and directed by Michael Wenning (Crossing Lines, Hauptstadtrevier). Bavaria Fernsehproduktion producers are Ronald Mühlfellner and Christina Christ. Michael Gantenberg wrote the screenplay based on an idea by Ronald Mühlfellner. Commissioning editor is Carolin Haasis (ARD Degeto). German production manager is Sylvia Binder (Hanna, Nanga Parbat).
The local team includes producer Henrik Meyer (Shana - The Wolf's Music, Everything's Gone Green), line producer Ian Hay (Arctic Air), 1st AD Jason Furokawa (Gracepoint), location manager Jack Veldhuis, casting director Candice Elzinga, production designer Paul Joyal, and costume designer Sheila White.
